Rapper Jake Haze Reflects on an Unforgettable and "Broken Year" -- Album Review

"Broken Year" is the latest project by the critically acclaimed rap/hip-hop artist, Jake Haze. The 14 track album is by far his best work. Musically, he dives all in and this project encompasses all human emotions.  While we haven't even reached the halfway point of 2020, the album is influenced by 2020's ups and mostly downs.

Haze, an award winning artist from Allentown, Pennsylvania, has a mature and controlled flow. His lyrics are sophisticated, and his music, a well produced and curated sound. The rapper has an appreciation for sound and rhythm that shows he is not new to the game.

In fact, Jake Haze has collaborated & performed with some major names like Whitney Peyton, Slaine, Reef the Lost Cauze, King Magnetic, Tone-Z, Army of the Pharaohs among many other. By fusing genres and taking artistic chances, he continues to make innovative and introspective tracks.

"Wake up to some Gucci slides and K-cups"

Album highlights include Sweet Gravy, a mellow rap track with soulful vibes perfect for rolling and smoking at the end of then night. "Honeymoon is over baby. What we had wasn't sweet gravy," sings  Haze.

Another dope joint on "Broken Year" is a song called Colored in America. The song which features Tay Edwards, has a slow old-school feel while infusing the high-hat drum beats associated with trap music. His lyrics, "don't fuck with me I'm high, I made it out alive," speak to the unique melanin experiences --being 'colored' in America. This song is a whole bop.

Jake is a talented rapper who is posed to rise. Music is his gift; lyrics are his truth. "Broken Year" is his diary, and 2020 is his moment.
