Frankly Austyn Takes Listeners "In My Head"

Frankly Austyn is an up-and-coming emo-trap artist/producer with big dreams and heavy hittin' verses. His debut EP, In My Headexplores his internal struggle with mental illness in hopes to share a connection with listeners and fans. And he's had no problems racking up the listeners. Since he dropped the project, the 6 songs, which include titles like "Anxiety" and "Bad Vibes" have been streamed more than 80K times on Spotify. Not bad for a debut EP for an indie artist.

The 25 year old rapper, born Austyn Smith, grew up in metro Atlanta, GA and always had an affinity for music. In high school he played trumpet in the marching band. But Austyn said, "I ditched the trumpet soon after high school, and I've always had a love for music, but I discovered my passion from attending various basement shows in and being around other musicians in my early 20s."

One of the tracks, entitled "Anxiety" takes listeners both lyrically and musically on an emo-electro-alt-trap trip through Frankly Austyn's dark feelings and revelations. It's courageous and masterfully executed.

"Im holding onto hope you see.."

From the sick sample to the crying/singing intro in "In My Head", the track is addictive. Then the trap beat drops, and its over for me. This song is genre-bending, dreamy and litty. "All these voices in my head, calm these voices in my head." The only criticism of this song is that it feels too short, but I get the sense that this is only the beginning for Austyn.

"I lost my mind, where do I go.."

When did you start getting serious?
I started making beats at the beginning of 2019, and from there I began making original songs. I dropped my first track, "You", in July of 2019.

Who do you draw from artist-wise?
My influences include Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Mike Dean, Flume, Nirvana, Lana Del Rey, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, and many more.

How would you describe your sound?
I have an eclectic style that blends Atlanta trap with electronic and rock influences.
