Spliffy Mars Releases Dope Futuristic Album, 'Away Feeling'

Spliffy Mars is a young, charismatic rapper from Atlanta with a futuristic, alt-trap sound. He recently released a new album entitled, "Away Feeling". Its a full-length, 16 track project that I had the pleasure of listening to on my way home. Off the bat, I could tell Mars has a good ear for innovation, and his alternative southern trap vibe is on par with the kinda sound many younger hip hop listeners wanna hear.

There are a couple of tracks that stand out for me on the album. The first is Fifteen, a song full of highly synthesized vocals, and a hazy beat that gave the song a dream like energy. Earlier this month, he dropped the video for his new single, Fifteen. His cutting-edge, Metallica meets cloud trap sound, is out-of-the-box.

Another really nice song to check out is Troubled. I like the lofi quality juxtaposed against the ultra-modern, "techy" sounds. There's also a cool mix of effects including what feels like an homage to mumbling, muffling, and chopped and screwed. Nu Yr Nu Munna featuring KaeSave has a dope beat on it. I could easily see Playboi Carti jumping on a remix of this song.

He has a considerable amount of following on social media and has many tracks across the internet. But he got a head start; at 14 years old, he started putting his music on Soundcloud. Then the rapper/producer started working on music with heavy hitters such as Mexiko Dro, PoloBoyShawty, and other members of the Beatpluggz. By 2019, he was really taking music seriously--professionally releasing music on digital streaming platforms and gaining traction from many different countries in the world.

Other standouts on the album include 2 Tone Glocks and Freebandz which is a perfect addition for a DJ's strip club, trap music playlist. He currently has 4 projects out, so there's plenty of content if you ever need new music or cool a new hip hop artist to listen to.
