ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Boogie Woods is Poised to 'Shine'

Boogie Woods is an incredible young rap artist on the come up. The 23 year old up-and-comer has been performing from town-to-city trying to push his dope sound to as many ears as will listen. As an artist, he infuses a seamless blend of hip-hop and R&B into his musical artistry--from eras new and old, and he delivers a handful of memorable lyrical nuggets on his new single, Shine.

Woods, whose from Trotwood, Ohio, opens the single up with a nostalgic dose of old-school soulful background sounds that reminded me of Jay-Z's 2001 hit, Song Cry. On the track, Woods raps, "it takes a village for a child and a clan for the man." He spits about the struggles he's had to deal with, the constant threat of mortality, shining all day and grinding all night. Growing up, Boogie can recall listening to gospel, hip-hop, R&B, rock, country and pop music. His eclectic musical influences, he says, can be found and heard in his music via his "cadences, subject matter and diction." Musically, he listens to Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Kanye West, Big Sean, Chance the Rapper and Tory Lanez.

"Raise em up, kill em off. Then the cycle starts again..."

Boogie Woods's musical journey started back when he and his middle school classmates would record freestyles rap verses on the school's computers instead of doing their science class work. But the dedication and hustle has not gone unnoticed.  Since then, he's released numerous singles and a SoundCloud exclusive project entitled "Supreme Champion" which helped raise his visibility. Last year, he dropped a melodic rap single entitled, Chosen One.

Boogie Woods new single, Shine is out now and available on major streaming platforms.
